Project Scenario
Doug owns a bank building with a metal awning over the entry way. How do you paint the metal awning?
Preparation
- Pressure wash to remove dirt, grime, chalk, and other contaminants.
- Sand to remove and loose paint and feather edges.
- Clean with mildew retardant solution if necessary. Let dry thoroughly.
- Scuff sand if coating is high gloss and wipe off sanding residue.
Notes
- The pitch of the roof or awning must be greater than 2/12. If it is not, you will need a roof membrane system (not available at Cloverdale Paint).
- If, on the current roof or awning, water beads up like on waxed paper, do not paint. Paint adhesion will likely fail
Primer and Finish Coat In One
Best: 714XX, Multimaster, "Satin" or "Semi-Gloss". Spot priming with 05910 Prime Solution Bonding Primer, may be required on certain areas.
